 Re: Art Dump
That is a very neat dragon so far! Body structure is excellent, and in general it reminds me a lot of Dragon Commander. Something tells me this is intentional. :v Veve wrote: (im double posting but im assuming this is alright because its been like over a week..) i was doodling werewolves WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN this little ♥♥♥♥ came into existence i am still very much getting used to photoshop and it shows oh lawd, is dat sum werechulf? i see your werechulf and give you a hand for your troubles (and obligatory top hat) I know i messed up around the knuckle area (also the index finger looks injured), despite taking very direct reference from my own hand. This time though, i didn't trace it. :U

 Re: Art Dump
So, deciding I'd start making graphical renditions of the items from RtD Fantasy started off like a good idea. I decided to start by doing the sword Alaris has. Being the Dragon of Death he's got a very, very powerful weapon. I spent five hours on that thing. I was just working away, made lots of progress, looked at the clock and three hours had passed. I'm especially pleased with the runes and the one thing I dislike most are the heads on the sides of the crossguard. I had the most fun, though, with the pommel. Considering the backstory Alaris has, I think it adds a lot to the weapon. The reason it started off like a good idea to do the items is that drawing is basically crack :p It's a lot of fun to do, though, even though I end up going to bed at strange times, like now, which is half eight in the morning.

 Re: Art Dump
matching B&W umbreon/espeon avatars i did for myself and robby for valentine's day (we're using them on another board right now!) im not incredibly pleased with how they turned out, but he appreciated them so that's what matters! i also did a paint doodle of these two, i was going to print it out to make into a card but i didnt like it enough for that (plus i realized we dont have our printer set up right now) lol so anyways, happy valentines day! i hope you all had a good one, even if you spent it alone.

 Re: Art Dump
Opf, once again i find myself bewildered as to how it's possible to make such smooth and accurate curves by hand, especially the B/W image. :I @caekdemon: Yo that's pretty neat, done pixel art style? The runes and other little details look snazzy, although i'll go out on a limb and say that the shading is DANGEROUSLY CLOSE to pillow shading, and the tip of the blade seems a bit funky. Note that in general, shading tends to look better when the light doesn't come directly from the viewer. It's harder, yes, but it looks better. Also, regarding sharpness of the blade, a common trick is to simply made the edge of the blade much brighter than the rest, as well as having a specular reflection where applicable. Of course, i had to try this myself to remind me how it works, so... Lerp. :U I am annoyingly rusty at this, probably because it's been a million years since i pixel'd up something for shits and giggles, but hey, turned out reasonably okay. And while i'm at it, here have some quick things: A PAINTY CUP A SKETCHY DINOSAUR THING A FACE Notable in that it's one of the extremely few times i've drawn ANYTHING facing the viewer directly. :U

Yeah, I did it pixel art style, I'm pretty bad at doing it in other ways. Though I'm getting better. As for the blade, it did come out a bit badly. I'm still quite inexperienced with shading but I think I'll get the hang of it eventually. Also, making the edge brighter? Brilliant idea, something I should've realized. I made a gradient by layering the different shades, then hitting it with Gaussian blur to make the blade seem more metallic. My next weapon will be better I believe

 Re: Art Dump
Excellent, looking forward to seeing it. c: Also, i'd advise you to be careful with gradients, because it's actually pretty rare in real life to see a gradient like that (the light level actually only visibly tapers off near the edges of the lit area). And, funkily enough, a key characteristic of metallic shading is that the lighting level changes rather significantly and abruptly as opposed to smoothly and faintly. You're much better off googling a metal shading tutorial than you are listening to an inexperienced doodleguy (read: me) rambling, but in any case, i decided to study metal shading a bit for my own sake. went somewhat okay But anyways, main point is that metal tends to be much more reflective than most other materials, so you'll be seeing very sharp differences in light. Now i shall go back to doodling in Paint. :U

 Re: Art Dump
That would've been helpful when I was starting out most definitely! But, it's actually probably more helpful now that I have a foothold rather than no clue at what i was doing.
The differing art styles at the bottom by individual sprite artists were neat too.
