Here's one I cooked up myself:

I was born of strength and fire and force, and have in me the power to cause much pain.
Yet I need another to guide my course - alone I cannot be anyone's bane.

I foul the air, grow and infect.
Killing and saving, both I do.
My might is so that it starts a war,
and at the same time prevents it.
If I wanted, I could lead you astray,
but my sole task is to guide to safe haven.

Cave, that is a toughie. Looking at the third and fourth lines, I thought it might be poison, but that doesn't fit the other lines at all....

Yeah, that is difficult. I guess my guess is love, though it doesn't really fit with the fouling the air bit.

I think, maybe, that it could be the media. Maybe.

My guess would have to be Religion, or Politics.

Edit: by that I mean government.

Government actually fits a lot of those criteria, but I don't think it fits the 'foul the air, grow and infect' bit.

I mean, in a WAY, it might, but that's stretching it.
