Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
Instinctual is instinctual as you said. Runic is you can write down the Runes and magic circles and all that nonsense and make magic happen like that. Vocal or something, don't remember exact term, is you can say the magic and it functions. Pathic is you can think it and magic happens.
And you can learn new magic by learning it, such as in a book or from a teacher.

Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
Thanks, both of you. Now I understand.
Heh. When I think Vocal, I think of Tales games. There are cases where saying stuff out loud is awesome, and cases where it makes you look like an idiot. In RtD, it'd probably make you look like an idiot, unless there was some kind of cool chant or some other language you have to speak in.

Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
Oh, so Pathic isn't the best, since it's more straining. That kind of makes sense. But Chirop have big brains and lots of magic power, so it's no issue.
Also, are Humans really better casters than Chirop in the long run? It said that the large frontal brain lobe thing limited Chirop and kept them from casting more powerful spells. If that's the case, what a bummer. I was looking forward to being an epic mage.

Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
Whoops, read it wrong. My bad.
One more question, and this one is just for the heck of it. Do you have a scientific explanation of how magic works for your game?

Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
I'm coming up with an explanation for it in my next RtD that revolves around certain invisible particles that can be drawn into the caster's own body and manipulated. But really, it's just an idea. I couldn't really explain why people are even capable of drawing these particles into themselves, so it's only a half-explanation.
I think it's pretty funny that your magic system got picked apart, Torrent, and not mine, which has no basis in science at all. It's essentially: "Magic gems are magic, hurr."
Ah, what fun. But I digress. This is beginning to become the kind of conversation that should be in FG Lounge.

In Magitech, Mana was drawn from the after life of the same name. The magic you are using is the essences of peoples souls.

Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
I actually planned for a magical ability where people could rip out the souls of dying enemies and use it as a major combat buff. Or turn it into fire.

Re: Equilibrium Universe RtD Q&A
Code: (Rough translation of the twelve passages of Caelum)
The great sky of Caelum stirred, and with two great arms, one of light and one of dark, gave substance to the world.
Barren lands without power, so seven gifts sent down to nourish the wastes, each a blessing and a curse.
The first of earth, strong and steadfast, upheld stability, and forced conformity.
The second of water, flowed as one, in a uniting faith, and unrelenting horde.
The third of wind, soared unbound, travelling free, and heartless neglect.
The fourth of fire, rushed outward, a measure of courage and recklessness.
The fifth of ice, cold and still, maintained a calm, and effort of sloth.
The sixth of lightning, a stroke of command, an order of law and oppression.
The seventh of life, brilliance of thought, a soul of art and evil deceit.
