My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the thread
Gentlemen, the time has come for us to finally have pony thread.
Why oh why
As many of you already know, the denizens of this forum has taken a liking to the candy coloured equine fellows that inhabit the magical land of Equestria. You might have thought to yourself: "Egad, what monstrosity has enchanted these otherwise fine fellows". This, my good sire, is what I am about to tell you.
Ponies, wat
The My Little Pony franchise has been flourishing in different forms since the 80's. However with the recent'ish (late 2010) reboot of the franchise, in the form known as "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", it has garnered a very large following on the internet. The reasons for why people like it vary from the mildly absurd to fairly understandable. But one thing that everyone can agree on is the quality of the show as a cartoon. Something that reminds us of a more glorious time in our youth where cartoons were funny rather than this garbage. It is well animated, the character design is astounding, the musical score (both background and foreground) is exceptional and the humour is great. Although the amount of cheesy lessons and cartoon tropes can be a bit overpowering at points. All thanks to Lauren Faust, who also worked on the Powerpuff Girls, The Iron Giant and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.
But the show itself is just the tip of the iceberg. Beneath it, on the internet, lies a enormous amount of content created by the fans of the show. Granted, a lot of it is pretty terrible in more ways than one (This is the internet after all). But even if you scrape past all that you can find everything from whimsical remixes of the songs in the show to completely original scores, beautiful artwork, fan animation, comics and much, much more.
Pray tell, what do these ponies do
Our main protagonist is the bookworm Twilight Sparkle who studies under Princess Celestia, who is the divine ruler of the world of Equestria. In the first two episodes we meet the rest of the cast and get introduced to them in a way that, while not very entertaining, does a good job at showing who they are. Twilight Sparkle gets tasked with making friends by Celestia and the show revolves around her and her friends in various situations.
The show is basically divided into two different kinds of episodes. Adventure and Slice of Life. Adventure episodes usually deal with an actual problem of some kind and require our wayward heroes to venture out on a quest to deal with this problem. Dragonshy, Dragonquest, both of the first episodes and Sonic Rainboom are examples of these. Slice of Life episodes generally happen in the confines of the village our heroes live in. They usually deal with more everyday problems like how to break some bad news to your friends, completing tasks before deadlines and babysitting. Examples of this are Family Appreciation Day, Read It and Weep and Feeling Pinkie Keen (one of my favorites!).
So why should I care?
You shouldn't unless you want to try something without any preconceptions about it. The show is great, you just have to give it the chance to be great. Hell, even if you're predisposed against it, you should be able to find some enjoyment still. I had some friends over who had never seen it before some time ago and they all walked away feeling pretty good about it. Even if they were hating on it before seeing it. Basically the bottom line is this: watch it, it will most likely be an enjoyable experience, and you will be able to get some enjoyment out of all the pictures and fan videos that proliferate around the internet.
Oh my, where do I find these ponies
Well, the obvious answer to this would be thepiratebayiTunes. You can get all of the episodes in HD for a reasonable price there. An alternative is to look around on youtube, there's usually HD versions of episodes up and they aren't hard to find. Just search for the titles of episodes and it shouldn't be too bad.
The wacky fans produced these things.
In this section I am just going to show examples of the stuff the community has made. There's much more though, the hub news site Equestria Daily and DeviantArt are great places to get started.
Music/music videos:
Art:
Fan animation:
Hilarious animation of a fanfiction, it does however contain gore. So be advised
Small OP notes:
I am not going to be moderating this thread as to prevent any outcries of bias in the event that I would have to deal with trolls or likewise in here.
Also:
Also, in case you think I can improve this OP somehow. Just PM me with the change or something.
Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the thread
The MLP:FiM community is certainly one of the most creative I have ever seen. I can't tell whether or not that's due to sheer numbers or some kind of correlation.

Really Lizard, there's no point in being a handsome champion. Please don't come in here if you're just going to be like that.

If you find warm, cuddly, brightly colored baby mammals with an actual sense of humor and plot "gay" in the derogatory sense, you must be a cold-blooded, heartless dull lizard.
Anyways, I was somewhat skeptical of this show at first, but I watched a few episodes of season 1 a while back, and I'm quite impressed of the quality, more so that it was originally directed at young girls, who usually have trashy shows (I have 2 little sisters that live with me, so I'd know).
