I thought Terraria was quite good. It at least tried to be original by mixing Minecraft with an almost forgotten Metroidvania genre.

I think that it's incredibly similar to Castlevania games with it's gear progression, mass monster genocide and massive boss fights. It just happens to include crafting and digging as well (hence the, Metroidvania + Minecraft, part).

Yeah but metroidvania implies you're progressing thanks to items you find elsewhere.
Terraria is mostly grinding.

And walking past the same corridor with constantly respawning monsters for 1001st time in Castlevania is not grinding? :grin:
There's exactly the same gear progression mechanics in Terraria, the gear you get allows you to travel further and further down under ground, beat tougher monsters, get better gear, repeat. Grand finale, with a massive boss fight.

Exactly like in Castlevania but without story.

i find it amusing how sceptical i was of steam when i first got it.

and now? I just bought 7 games as of now with that steam Sale for the price of one new game.
