First-place winner can choose the theme of the next contest!
First-place winner can pass prizes down to second-place winner, second-place winner can pass to third-place winner, and so on

Details on Azukki's prize:

Let's raise the stakes, eh?
For the current contest, "Oh God What", I'll gift the first place winner a copy of Tripwire Interactive's Killing Floor via Steam. I have a few more copies, and plan to have them as prizes for future contests, but I'm going to wait to see the themes before committing to that.
If the winner already has KF, or would rather choose someone else to get it, I'll gift it to whoever the winner wants. If you don't contact me for three weeks after winning, or there are extremely unlikely complications with the gifting of it that result in more than two hours of me continually trying and not managing to gift it, you may not get the prize.
If the rules of the contest change, the prize can be considered canceled unless I say that I approve of the revised rules. (I probably will, unless the voting gets switched to a panel of obviously biased judges, or something like that.)
Azukki wrote:
Oh, I just remembered that last time I said the prize was only for that time with no commitments for future prizes. Well, it's on again for this contest, same as before, however, I'm adding two little rules, one: If you chose the theme, you're ineligible for the prize. The other: At least two entries must be entered for a prize to be given. Sole participation, place 1/1, won't get it.

-- SHORT DESCRIPTION --
This is mostly an experiment to boost modding activity. In this topic, there will be a mod "Theme." Anyone who makes a mod and releases it in "Mod Releases" during the X Time Period (time between modding start and end times) (Time Period will depend on mod theme) will be rated by other forum members in the mod topica group of judges a public poll. Once the theme changes, Someone (I) will average out all of the ratings in all of the mod topics compile the scores. The three mods with the highest average score will result in the mod maker(s)'(s) name, along with a link to the mod, presented here.
Think of this as a mini-mod contest.
-- RULES --
Important In order for the mod maker to "submit" their mod, it must be RELEASED IN THE "MOD RELEASES" FORUM and they MUST have the following text included somewhere in their topic: Modding Theme Entry: <Mod Theme Name> The text can be in the topic's title OR in the topic post.
The "submited" mod must be released within the time frame (between modding start and modding end time). I'm not going to be incredibly strict about the exact time to the minute/hour, but just release the mod a day or more before the time to make things easier.
Mod rating is allowed between the Modding Start Time and the Score Calculation.
When a mod is rated, it is on a scale between (0) and (10). You should make this rating easy to see, something like: Mod Rating: 8/10
The rating scale is between (and including) (0) and (10). The highest number you can rate is 10, the lowest is 0. No -3's or 11's.
Ratings will be done via judges for this contest. Each judge will rate each entry on a scale between (and including) zero (0) to ten (10) based on their judging catogory. At the end of the contest, the ratings of each entry will be averaged, and that will be the entry's score.
Judges can not enter the contest if they had submitted an entry for the contest they are currently judging.
Important , New Scores will be done via polls for the contest. At the end of the submission time, a poll will be up where you can choose your favorite entry. The contest entry with the most votes wins.
Only one entry per person/group.
Entries can only be submitted for one contest theme.
Old mods can be entered into the contest as long as they were not entered into this contest in the past.
New No mods in "Mod Releases," (excluding mods in the "Minor Mod Dump") in part or whole, can be used in the mod contest if they were released before the contest started.
New Mods in "Mod Making," can be used in the mod contest if they were not entered before.
New Entries require their own, NEW topic when submitted (and the entry's topic post date must be in between the Modding Start Time and Modding End Time).
Group mods are ALLOWED. So are independantly made mods.
New Making posts or PMs asking for votes will result in disqualification.
Sending a mod to another person for the purpose of beta testing or mod help is ALLOWED. /end
If you think a rule should be amended or a new rule should be added, post in this thread. Please don't PM me (about rules).

Judges
Positions: Graphics, Mod Mechanics, and Gameplay
None Needed ____________________ Judge jobs: Graphics judges - Focus on the mod's visual and audio effects. Take into account spriting, use of particle effects and glows, and sound effects.
Mod Mechanics judges - After playing with the mod in-game, check out the ini code and Lua and look for interesting or unique coding/scripting tricks or work-arounds.
Gameplay judges - You guys only have to play with the mod, and rate it for fun factor, balance, usefulness, and any other related things in-game.
To all judges - Type up a few sentences noting things related to your judging area, and why you gave the entry your specific rating. Your rating is a number between (and including) zero (0) to ten (10) that is based upon your judging catogory and the entry's components linking to that catogory. ____________________

Re: Modding Theme of the X Time Period
Hrm. Those are too generic. Make the theme "Space" or something. I believe it would be quite a nice theme, and it's not like I've spent the last three months making a mod with that theme that would totally win that contest, hands down. No, really. Hinthinthint

Can I suggest a theme of burrowing or underground?

I like this.
Flora seems a bit uncreative, given the number of flora-esque mods in Releases at the moment. I do like either space or burrowing. Leaning towards burrowing, I think.

Re: Modding Theme of the X Time Period
Might I suggest that ratings are posted in this thread, rather than scattered around Mod Releases? Seems like it would save you some work.

Hmm, I think it would be easier if the ratings were in the topic itself. I'll change rules if needed in the next theme.
So, when do you want this theme to start? I'm thinking about making it a week and 4 days long.
Edit: Scratch that. It starts NOW!
You have 11 days (about a week and a half) to make/post your mod. Remember, the earlier you release, the more ratings you get! (though that does not necessarily mean you will get good ratings) Good Luck!

Re: Modding Theme of the X Time Period *Theme: Burrowing!
This sounds like an excellent idea, it's just too damn bad that for three weeks sunday I will have no long term access to a computer. Crap.
I just hope this lasts long enough for me to dip my toes into it.

Burrowing is the right theme. Not too general, not too specific.
And we are lacking some original burrowing stuff lately.

What I don't like about running contests... Is that I can't join them.

You'll probably be able to enter something for the second theme, though you'll have less time to make/release than other people.
