Post Re: [FAQ] General Troubleshooting READ IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS!
Sorry... well I got another error.

Abortion in file .\System\Reader.cpp, line 531, because:

Wrong type in Reader when passed to Serializable::Create() in Base.rte/Settings.ini at line 184!

The last frame as been dumped to 'abortscreen.bmp'

Ugh. That's the broken settings.ini problem. Unregister and grab a new Settings.ini from here. Then put your settings and registration details back in and keep a backup of your settings.ini, because sometimes it breaks like that.

Oh well, I got it fixed, thanks. When you're registered, this game is fun. Hours of playing it...

Not a problem.
If you like long sessions, you might like more base infrastructure. Try checking out the Mod Releases forum, and don't be scared to peek into the Older Mods subforum.

Ergh... it happened again. How do I unregister when I can't even start the game?

Edit: God this is so confusing. I THINK that I replaced the settings, but I don't know. I moved it to the Cortex Command folder... god this is so confusing.

Edit: Oh my god. What the ♥♥♥♥. I have tried everything. I just moved the new settings to the CC folder, then I deleted the old settings and then moved it, and then I unregistered, and then replaced the settings and registered, using the things in the folder, and then I unregistered, registered, replaced the settings, then I unregistered, put the settings in, and then looked in the settings for the last email and last key, which I assume is the registration thing, and put in the information, and still nothing!

EDIT: HOW DO I ♥♥♥♥ DO THIS?

It may be a different problem.
Okay, it's still giving you the same error, with the new Settings.ini?
If you have a look into the settings.ini after trying to start, is some of it missing?
Which OS are you using and where is your Cortex Command folder?
There is a pair of .bat files in the Cortex Command directory that registers and unregisters.
You don't actually have to do the unregistering and registering thing; I was more asking you to do it so it'd be easier for you in case something went wrong.
You might want to try reinstalling. Just the normal Cortex Command files, not the mod ones. Be sure to do it in a new folder.

I reinstalled it, and all of my mods. Also, I don't think anything is missing from the settings. I will look into it if the error happens again. Also, my OS is Windows XP, and my CC folder is in C:/Program files/Data realms. So... yeah.

Program files. The source of all evil things. Move it to the desktop and it should work.

It's not a problem with Vista or 7 either.
It's all about how you set your permissions.

Well the difference is that it has a greater potential to be a problem on windows 7. But yeah, I doubt it's a program files error.

did you edit base.rte in anyway?

Also, check if that file exists in the folder directory.

This particular error can be caused by an audio error. Try restarting the program, the computer or starting windows media player before trying the program again.
