Re: PBW - Particle Beam Weapon
Lasers do work by concentrating light to create a beam. The intensity of the beam can range from simple pointing(red), to burning retinas(green), to cutting objects of various density. Lazers do not exist. Lasers are invisible except at the point where they hit. If the actual beam were visible it would no longer be a laser, but a particle gun. The reason for this is because we can only see light that is diffracting, since all the beams in a laser should be parallel we would not see it and hence, invisibilty. Since a particle beam is made of of, well, particles, each individual particle can absord, emit, and reflect light(even refract if it were transparent). Thus you could see the entire length of the beam. Which then leads me to a serious physics problem, wouldn't a particle beam have an arc? If the particles were greater than 0 mass(which they have to be) they would fall, if they were lighter than air they would rise. If they were the exact same weight as air then the slightest breeze would force the beam off target...
Anyways it was an interesting idea for a mod, with some polish it would be better.

(Of course, I mean "Particle Beam Shotgun") If you really want to get scientific we could pretend that the beam is falling, but because of the speed (or the lack of weight or you get the picture) the beam is actually orbiting around the planet, so it appears to be going straight. ...Or something.

Re: PBW - Particle Beam Weapon
I never called you a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I said this person was smart. Or he googled 'particle beam'. Anyway, I think this would own if not for the offsets. And maybe a continuous beam and a glow for a muzzleflash.

Who gives a ♥♥♥♥? This is Cortex Command.
Disembodied brains control armies of little meat puppets. If he wants a particle light beam shooter thing, he can have one.

Re: PBW - Particle Beam Weapon
*gives whitty salute* i noticed how long this thread is for such a tiny tiny tiny mod,its only a sprite taken from a different mod and this somehow started a debate about laser, lazer, particle beams and every aspect of physics P.S nice mod P.SS we need a laser shotgun

Re: PBW - Particle Beam Weapon
It's surprising how many idiots in the world have access to the internet.. A laser can have a visible beam, if the light is diffracted by the median it travels through. All that a laser is is a stream of photons, just like any other kind of light. It reflects off of molecules and into our eyes, which is how we "see" it. So while it's going to make the strongest effect from coming into direct contact with a solid, you can still see it if the air isn't transparent enough to let all of the light through. With that said, the OP did say "Particle Beam." That could mean anything, think of a portable particle accelerator that fires a beam of particles. Assuming the particles are big enough to see, you'll see them. benjabby wrote: so basicly im a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? how am I supposed to know how lasers work im still learning, im only 13....... Age has nothing to do with intelligence. I've known how lasers work since I was around 9 or 10. You just have to put the effort into learning, and stop blaming your ignorance on your physical age.
