Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift - (4/6)
So, we'll be playing Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. It'll be just like any other forum game where you give actions for your character, except it's really a DS game.
Goal: Finish Main Quest and Brightmoon Tor: Third Watch But I'll still make you do a load of side quests.
Each player will control 1 character, and you can select whatever race and job you want.
Each character has 5 equipment slots, 2 class skill sets, a reaction ability, and a passive ability.
Name: Luso Race: Hume Equipment: - - - - - Main Job: Sub Job: Reaction: Passive:
For this play-through, you won't be able make your own name. Silly, huh? You'll have to pick one of the names of the characters that are currently in the party, since I can't just add new characters. Abilities are learned by equipping items and gaining EXP from the ability attached to the item by simply battling. To speed things up, I've hacked in every item in the game, so you can equip any item you want and learn any ability whenever.
The majority of jobs in the game are also locked by quests, and I've hacked them in, so you have access to all jobs. You'll still have to learn the prerequisite jobs/abilities that they require, however.
You can change your job, abilities, and equipment whenever you aren't in battle.
Once you decide on a race, you can't change.
The game normally uses a "law" system, where a single rule is set in the beginning of the battle, and you can select one perk that all units benefit from. If the law is broken, you can't use the perk, and you can't revive. However, we'll be completely abandoning that silly law system. If you get KO'd no matter what, you're out of the game. The perk selected at the beginning of the battle will be something useless, so breaking the law will have no effect whatsoever.
That means no revive abilities are allowed.
Results of your actions will be posted in the form of a youtube video, so only apply if you can reliably watch youtube videos.
Since this is a turn-based game and one character actions at a time, that person will have to be keeping a watch on when they're up and action in a timely manner. Only apply if you can action quickly and consistently. We're not gonna wait any more than 3 days for someone to action, but really, if everyone else in the game thinks you're actioning too slow, they can vote kick you.
Only exception is if you post in this thread or PM me that you will be unable to action for a period of time. Posting in FG Lounge does not count.
Combat tutorial video starts here. It's highly recommended that you watch this if you've never played this game before.
How to Action
This is how you'll tell me where you want your character to move.
See the yellow X in the blue movement tiles? If you want to move there, you'll simply say
North 3 West 1
Because it's 3 tiles North of your character and 1 tile West.
You'll also use this method to tell where you want to target spells. For melee attacks, you can simply say North, East, South, or West.
So, your generic actions will look something like:
> Move South 1, West 3 Attack North End Facing North
You can request to see your character screen any time, though I might simply give you a text version.
-Stats- Move: How many tiles you can travel in one turn. Jump: The maximum elevation height you can jump up to get to higher tiles. Evasion: Percentage of how likely you are to avoid a basic attack. Different skills used on you may have different accuracy modifiers. Speed: How soon your turn comes. Attack: Physical attack strength. Defense: Damage resistance against physical attacks. Magick: Magic attack strength. Resistance: Damage resistance against magic attacks.
-Equipment- You have 5 slots for equipment. You can generally have 1 of each type of item, only exception is if you have the Dual Wield passive skill, you can wield two weapons.
-Abilities- A (first): Main job ability set. "Arts of War" is the Soldier ability set. A (second): Secondary job ability set. Can equip another job ability set or have access to "Items", which are expendable items shared by the party. R: Reaction ability. This activates if you are attacked under the circumstances described by the ability. P: Passive ability. Self explanatory.
Learning Abilities
Abilities in this game, as mentioned further above, are learned by having an item equipped that has the ability you want to learn, and having your main job be the one that corresponds with the ability. You gain exp for the ability in battles, and when you've MASTERED the ability, you can use it without having the piece of equipment.
Abilities that can be cast are Action abilities, and those are contained within a job skill set. Mastered action abilities can be used whenever you have the job skill set equipped, and reaction and passive abilities can be equipped whenever, as long as you've mastered them.
Only action abilities count towards prerequisites, reaction and passive do not.
How Does Mana Work?
You start the battle with 0, and it regens by 10 every time your turn comes up. Mana is spent depending on the ability cost.
Races
- Hume - The balanced race, can do a bit of everything.
- Bangaa - Slow but durable, a mostly physical race.
- Nu Mou - Slow, powerful mages. They have this thing where they can't enter water though.
- Viera - Fast but fragile, with mostly magic classes.
- Moogle - They're like smaller Humes in that they're fairly balanced in the types of jobs they have, but they have less magic and more engineer-like and animal-like abilities. Like Nu Mou, they also have this mysterious aversion to water and can't enter water tiles. Not recommended unless if you're looking for a challenge.
- Seeq - A tough race entirely devoted to melee and is one of two races with the fewest classes. Not recommended unless if you want to be useless.
- Gria - The other race that has the fewest classes, but can be terrifying lightning bruisers that dish out massive damage, turn completely invincible, and fly over any and every terrain obstacle. You're not allowed to be one of these.
Jobs Job List Items Job Tree (The numbers indicate how many abilities you need to master of a particular job to advance to a next one)
To apply, select which character name you want, what job(s), and what items. First-come-first-serve when it comes to names.
Whoever picks Luso doesn't get a changing sprite because the game is like that.

Going for a nuker? Be careful, those things are indiscriminate.
I think either a Spellblade/Green Mage, or a Sniper/Green Mage.
Do you learn abilities from your sub job set?

Foa that's the whole idea. I'll use blood price and use an elemental robe so I heal myself with my damage.

Spellblade/Green Mage is good support, can debuff the living ♥♥♥♥ out of enemies. Sniper's a good class all round, can deal some serious damage and also has some debuffs and useful non-damage skills.
You only learn skills for whatever your primary job is set to. If you've got Green Mage as your sub job, you can use any Green Mage skills you've learned, but you can't learn any new Green Mage ones.
Re: Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift - (2/6)
I was thinking Red Mage/Elementalist, but that seemed pretty silly. (Double Cast Flame Whip [Fire/Don't Act]) Elementalist isn't far from a Summoner, so a quick Half MP wouldn't be horrendous, but a bit too close to MLC for comfort. Past that, no idea what I'd do.
What would be the use of the Steal, and Break Shots?
Another thought would be Sniper/Spellblade. (As far as anyone cares, Arrow Tips are Bladed, ♥♥♥♥ Bodkin or Tempered Arrows)
NEW FRIEND!!! Name: Jerrog "JERROMIA" "JERROMI" Race: Viera Equipment: - White Staff - White Robe - Golden Skullcap - - Snowy Tear Main Job: White Magick Sub Job: Item Reaction: Passive:

Alright, I temporarily changed my plans. Gonna learn Geomancy first thing, because Geomancy a beast. After that I'll switch back to my original plan. Foa and MLC, set Item as your Sub Class for now, it's incredibly useful early game, and you've got nothing better to put in the slot atm anyway.
