Legends of the Sky - Group the Second
So, many moons ago on a forum far far away, I tried another Legends of the Sky thread, called Group the Second. It lost steam and died. BUT. Now, I've found the energy to continue it. SO!
Caekdaemon, Harzipan, CaveCricket48, and CrazyMLC. You're all back in the game. If you wish to change your characters, and I wouldn't blame you, then feel free. It will poof into being so. If you'd prefer to stick with your original GtS character, that's fine as well! If any of you don't feel like playing anymore, hell, that's fine too! Or, if you guys want, I can make a new start entirely, with new characters and a slightly more impressive backstory than "Drunkard captain who has a small boat".
Either way, when we left off Group the Second, they had just left Madosa, the large and bustling port that the first group stopped in. The group has a small, not too impressive dinghy, a bit of money, and a whole lot of moxy. Not much else.

Right, I'll probably tweak my character tomorrow, it's too late to do so right now.

My sheet should be good to go. Going to make some vital adjustments. Done!
Name: Markus Bensy
Description: As a recently reformed pirate-turned-bounty hunter, Markus has some reconciling to do. His past endeavors have resulted in him having a few enemies in different towns, and his name placed several of the very lists that he now uses to find his next big payday. Deep down, Markus has always wished to commandeer his own vessel, but accepts how very unlikely that has become now that he has turned from the more illicit side of life.
Abilities: Agile (+1 to rolls involving agility, such as running, chasing, or dodging.)

Re: Legends of the Sky - Group the Second
Here we go, completely redid the character.
Name: "Captain" Ernest Tarleton Description: An average sized man with big dreams. He hopes to one day captain a ship of the line. But in reality, he has little in the name of command experience what so ever. He has strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes and has a fairly deep voice with a strange accent (skip to 5:07 for how his voice sounds.). He's very loyal to his friends and wouldn't even think of betraying them, as well as having a personal code of honour, especially when dealing with the law. He's here to hopefully make a name for himself and gain valuable skyfaring experience. His grandfather was a great sailor, so he hopes that runs in the family.
Abilities: Great Ambitions : +1 to getting and handing in missions. I imagine this should increase the rewards, but if there is a problem with that here is my fall back. Maritime Blood : +1 to manoeuvring the ship. Inventory: Tidy clothes, Grandfather Nathaniel's compass. Equipment: Flintlock Pistol, or if that's too ahead of the tech, Steel cutlass. Proficiencies: Strength: + Endurance: Agility: Intelligence: + Magic:
If there are any problems, feel free to point them out.
I vote that our first action, once we are returned to our horrible boatvessel, shall be to stage a violent mutiny.

I vote that my first action, once my crew returns, be to shoot Markus in the gonads.

Harzipan, can you dumb your gun down a bit? Tech isn't advanced/small/good enough for something like a revolver.

The first guns with multichambered cylinders that revolved to feed one barrel were made in the late 1500s in Europe. They were expensive and rare curiosities. Not until the 1800s would revolvers become practical weapons for non-rich owners. One of the first was a flintlock revolver made by Elisha Collier in 1814. The first percussion cap revolver was the Colt Paterson, invented by Samuel Colt in 1836.[1] The first cartridge revolvers were produced around 1856 by Smith & Wesson.
I know of numerous flintlock "repeating" firearms, one as early as 1750...but these were civilian sporting or defense arms.
The first repeating rifle adopted by the military THAT I AM AWARE OF was Colt's Model 1855 revolving rifle. It was adopted for trial by a small number of US Army units and saw action in some of the skirmishes with Indians and limited use in the Civil War. I believe Berdan's sharpshooters used this rifle while waiting for the arrival of their breech-loaders.
This rifle loaded just like the cap and ball revolvers, and, like those pistols, would ocasionally discharge more than one chamber at once. Because it was a rifle and one of the shooter's hands was supporting the barrel ahead of the cylinder, a multiple discharge usually meant some fingers were lost. Because of this, and it's slow loading, it did not find great favor with the military and the US Government eventually sold them off for 42 cents each just to be rid of them.
Col Murph or someone may know of an earlier military repeater.
In LoTS group the 1, my character has a repeating rifle. If that is so, Harz' character should be allowed a revolver, if your reasoning is that the tech did not exist. Since his character is a bounty hunter, it's entirely within reason that he could have, at some point, procured a revolver.

LotS group 1 is significantly better equipped than Group 2. Additionally, a repeating mechanism can much more easily be fit into a rifle than into a pistol.

They're going to be mostly making their way by their wits and skill, not by items. Unless they all die.

Re: Legends of the Sky - Group the Second
The first repeating rifles pretty much used the same mechanisms as a revolver. As in, they were pretty much revolvers with a stock and longer barrel.
It being a rifle doesn't necessarily give it more room, and just gives it more issues because you have hot gas from the cylinder being shot onto your supporting hand.
And if you have uh, airships, then I think a revolver is pretty reasonable tech-wise.

If you guys have revolvers, I'd like to upgrade my weapon rather than be left behind with an antique.
