What ive learnt about forumgames over the years is that full PnP RPG systems are not a good design unless everyone knows the rules fairly well.

What works best imo are Tabletop based games. the likes of Infinity, Iron Hearts, Necromunda, Battletech.

Each has fairly high hp units, but all operate on fairly basic systems.

handy for pick up n play.

The rules don't have to be as complex as DnD. They just have to make the consequences of actions a little more binding. Of course, even if I ran a game with a system like this, I would fluff up the descriptions. If it became a boring, "you hit the rat for 12 fire damage" I would be disappointed in myself.

Also, not using an HP system. There will be (mostly) realistic wounds. To counteract the fact that you're getting seriously messed up all the time, there will be healing magic and other methods available to fix yourself up.

Magic is another thing. I like the idea of using bodily energy to fuel magic, but that means that the most athletic (the melee fighters!) would have the largest mana pool. Maybe characters with a higher INT, WIS, whatever magic stat can use energy for magic more efficiently or something.

So yeah I need a player for On the Day of an Angel.
It'll be cool.
There'll be blackjack. And hookers.

Waiting lists are bloody useful, you just need to send out a message by PM to people after checking their last online date.

So. Um.
What would you guys think. If I did a sorta... Arousing Game of Chess type of game.
With flash art, and semi-map type thing, and hero vs hero combat.
Not quite as number based and all, more freeform, but still art'd.
No guarantees, especially not while I've got so many games already, I'm just getting a feel for how people would like it.

Combobreaker.

But not just for the hell of it. I have more hypothetical nonsense to throw at you guys.

I have this big idea for my next game: You are NOT your character.

Essentially, you'd give me a rough outline of what kind of personality you'd want your character to have (and I won't be taking six of the same personality types, no sir) and I'd fill in the backstory, giving your character a unique perspective, and most importantly, Virtues and Vices. And just traits in general that you'll have to decide whether they're good or bad.

As far as control, you have as much control over your character as a coach has to a sports team. To be a little more specific, you can issue whatever commands you want, and your character will probably follow them, but if the action goes against character morals, or is overly embarrassing, or is something that the character greatly fears, he/she may not do it.

I like this idea a hell of a lot, because it's basically a way for the GM to have a small guiding hand over players, to make sure they don't do anything really out-of-character, or just horrible, like randomly murdering a whole village. Also, it that there's an excuse for character to carry on whole conversations without input; they already have set personalities, and thus I'd know how they would respond.

Whatchoo guys think?

Is that a challenge?

I could probably whip up a character who'd think that leaving a village not burnt down is ethically wrong.

Sounds good to me. Only issue is, everyone with you will hate you, or try to stop you - even other Players' characters, because they have different views than you do

That's why this idea is so great!

Unless the entire party is composed of bad guys.

Actually...That's a thought. A RtD where the players are the villains.

i am very interested in signing up for this, even though it sounds like less of an actual game than a story the DM writes for themself

and a villainous rtd would be pretty cool, although maart3n's corporate rtd is pretty close
