To elaborate;

You have no responsibility to create a weekly feature, and it's likely that such a new forumgoer will not gain any community support. Handing you some form of power is just suicide at this point, and your self-assumed moderation doesn't help. In addition to this, all of these things can be discussed in preexisting threads. The 'favourite modders' thread did well was because it enabled the community to praise other members of the community, other threads will not have the same success, as there's minimal incentive to post.
