Im following DR on twitter and im getting all these updates and i love it, but im sort of confused on where its all going...are these "updates" real-time and are being updated to peoples games everywhere or is this just what they are doing for the next build?

Also i got this game through the HIB(Humble Indie Bundle) and im wondering if im even getting these updates IF they are real-time, but if not then disregard this question.

Also will HIB purchasers get updates to?

Those updates are what will be in the next version of Cortex Command, not the current version.
Data is still working out how to get the new versions of the game out to HIB buyers, but rest assured that you will get future versions.

What about patch's? They are great!!!! :D
Or a update downloader built into the game.
Try looking up AI war they have a good updater thing made.
-It connects to a server and compares its version with the server version. (also checks to see if any beta features are uploaded.)
-It downloads and applys the patch if available.
-Supports beta updates, updates that are still being tested. (great for getting those bugs and feedback faster)

Considering how many times people would have to convert mods because of the frequent changes, modding would go to an all time low.
That, and these things are hard code revisions, you basically are updating to a new build, every few days.

There is a good reason why the team likes to privately beta, one of them being the age old isolation from the community.

Every version of the game that's released is a beta. The whole game is still a beta. Data prefers the longer waits/larger updates school of thought, which actually (for once, with Data) makes sense, given the large amount of support his modding community gives him. Roughly 1/3 major builds break, in a significant way, virtually every mod made for the game. If all of a sudden, everyone were updated to some minor patch that broke mods, then modders would have to scramble to release a new version of their mod for the patch. But what about people who didn't update to version .10000101, and instead opted to stay with version .10000100? Should I make two mods, one for each one?

It's just not ideal, in the fluid state of CC's core engine and .ini parsing, to push patches, rather than full updates. Plus, the main game .exe is the primary piece that gets changed, and an .exe that updates itself is both A: a hassle, and B: worrisome to many antiviruses.

There's no real reason to have a patch-update system in place, and it's probably better that there isn't, is what I'm saying.

So the Twitter update is inline of the next version of Cotex Command. That’s pretty nice; I’m too exited to see this new version of Cortex Command. Is it possible to access the new version now?

Nope, only the developers can. The devlog will announce a new build.

As much as I doubt it would happen, it would be nice if Data simply did nightly builds. He is already adding a hook to svn to post twitter updates, it would simply be another hook to build the project and put a link online.

These wouldn't be official builds, modders could play around with them and not be obligated to update. They could also prepare for any breaking changes. People would get to experience new features as soon as they were done. Data would only need to do things once and from there on it is completely automated. The source would remain closed. Everyone is happy.

Heck, I would do that if I could.

He'd be more likely to do weekly rather than nightly, I'm not sure the game has a new feature every day. Nightly builds work with a large coder-base, not really with 1 man doing the engine :P

All I can say is that this feed is getting me excited. Scriptable HDFirearms? Scriptable AI hooks? Scriptable Ring Menus?

Hell. Yes.
